The third best thing about visiting Virginia Beach in September is...great weekend events. In fact, every weekend during September, the oceanfront comes alive with at least one big event? See below for a partial list of this September’s events:

Blues at the Beach: September 12 – 14, 2008
Beachstreet Pavilion at 17th Street Park
All Entertainment is Free and Open to the Public

Neptune Wine Festival: September 13, 2008
12pm – 5pm at Neptune’s Park at 31st Street
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the gate
Join your friends by the oceanfront for an afternoon hosted by Virginia’s leading vineyards. Sip and savor chardonnays, merlots Rieslings and more while you meat and greet the fascinating people who are forging Virginia’s new reputation for quality wines. Enjoy delicious foods, live entertainment and the opportunity to purchases the wines you like.

NAS Oceana Air Show: September 19 - 21, 2008
All Entertainment is Free and Open to the Public
The 2008 Oceana Air Show kicks off at 5:30pm on Friday with a stunning Twilight Air Show, including aerial performances, blazing pyrotechnics and stunning fireworks. The fun continues on Saturday and Sunday with dazzling performances by the Blue Angels, Mike Goulian, Patty Wagstaff, British Red Devils, Leap Frogs, Shockwave Jet Truck and much more. Saturday and Sunday’s events kick off at 10am. Be sure to head down to the Oceanfront at 31st Street Park for a free concert at 6:45pm. When the sun sets on Saturday, there will be a Super Hornet Afterburner Flyover, parachute jumps and the introduction of the new Blue Angel team.

Festa Italiana: September 19 – 20, 2008
Beachstreet Pavilion at 17th Street Park
All Entertainment is Free and Open to the Public
This event features Italian Cuisine, entertainment and merchandise. Food will be the heart and soul of this event with many different Italian dishes available for purchase, all priced under $10. Live entertainment will include a performance by Aaron Caruso as well as the World Pizza Champions as they perform their pizza tossing acrobatic show. Having appeared on the Today Show, the Tonight Show, ESPN, Good Morning America, the Food Network and many others, this show is one not to miss.

Neptune Festival: September 26 – 28, 2008
Virginia Beach Oceanfront
All Entertainment is Free and Open to the Public
For three full days, a host of activities draw guests from across the region for this grand finale to the summer season. Daily live entertainment and over 275 artisans line the 32 blocks of the Virginia Beach boardwalk. Scheduled performers for this weekend include the following:

The number 4 best thing about visiting Virginia Beach in September is...fewer crowds:
4. Fewer Crowds: Did you know that during the month of September there are 15 - 25% fewer people vacationing at the beach than there are in July and August? Not only does this mean more room for you to enjoy the beach and the oceanfront Boardwalk, but that’s fewer people in the great shops and restaurants. Plus, with 15 - 25% fewer people traveling to and around Virginia Beach, that means less traffic getting down to Virginia Beach from your home town.

5. The Weather: Did you know that the weather for September in Virginia Beach is even nicer than it is in June - August? That's right, the average high temperature for the month of September is a beautiful 81 degrees - plenty warm enough to hit the beach, yet cooler and more comfortable than the high heat and humidity of July and August. Did you also know that the water temperature in September is still nice and warm? In fact, with an average September water temperature of 72 degrees, the Atlantic Ocean in September is only one degree cooler than it is in the middle of July.
